Daos
Intro
As part of our ongoing efforts to build a robust and experiened coorporative network of peers, we are preparing to instantiate two new sub-DAOs, alongside our main TestNET DAO.
What is a DAO & SubDAO?
At its simplest, a DAO is an organization where you can vote on proposals. Proposals are written to an immutable, public ledger (blockchain) - their text, whether they passed or failed, and who voted on them. Proposals can be natural language rules or laws (for example, you could run a legislature with them), or they can be software.
The DAO's governance can itself be modified by governance proposals. For example, the voting rules of the DAO themselves (e.g., how long voting periods last, what proportion of people need to vote on something for it to pass, etc.) can be modified by governance proposals.
What would a DAO be used for?
Daos can be used for almost anything, one could imagine in the future for DAO's to be how buisnesses run their entire operations. Legally recognized, self-soviergn (meaning it manages itself) on-chain entity could be where DAO's come into play for various multi-cultural collaborations that is effective and

title: SubDAOs
Definition and Purpose
SubDaos are typically DAO-funded teams with a recurring budget with no termination date (i.e., Community Moderation & Support, Marketing & Creative Services, etc).
SubDaos are the sub-units of how Terp DAO advances its purpose. A subDao is a group of people actively working on tasks that align with Terp Networks Constitutional Values and community run initiatives. As such, ratifying subdaos sets boundaries on what is and isn't in scope for Terp Network DAO's governance.
SubDao Requirements
Anyone may start a subdao and gather momentum behind it by posting on Commonwealth. Until a formal proposal for a budget is made, this subdao is considered βinformal.β A subdao can be as broad or narrow as its initiators like, but subdao proposals must satisfy the following criteria:
- Have a clear objective that aligns with Terp Network' values and objectives as listed in the Constitution.
- Distinguish itself from or explicitly state its improvements on existing subdaos.
- The specific KPI that the sub-DAO will focus on driving success in
- The actual work that the sub-DAO will undertake to drive toward the KPI
- Propose clear budgets and timelines for producing outcomes and all in line with the budget proposal flow.
SubDao Formation Process
SubDao can be formed through the Terp Network Proposal Framework. The proposal process can be read more in-depth here and the proposal must include the SubDao component template.
The burden falls mostly on the proposers of the sub-DAO, i.e., the sub-DAO must convince the Terp Network Community to fund its operations and support its mission. In other words, the sub-DAO should lobby for its formalization and funding proposal to pass.
A great way to build trust within the community is to operate informally first.
SubDao Stages
SubDaos have five potential states. Each of the five states and the requirements for a subdao in each state are outlined below:
- Informal: The subdao is not funded by the DAO, and has not made a formal proposal with its goals and a budgetary request.
- Proposed: The subdao has made a formal proposal to the DAO for a working budget.
- Active: The subdao is active and funded by the DAO.
- Inactive: The subdao has been discontinued and is no longer being funded by the DAO.

Introduction to Terp Network DAO's
Currently, a Dao of members volunteering to contributions exist on Terp Network. These plans help us map out the next steps moving forward to ensure we can maximize the next steps, while aiming to minimize individual contributors risk as much as possible.
A - Root-DAO
The Root-DAO is the final layer of consensus for Treasury actions and TerpNET Foundation managerial actions. With a pledge to progressively decentralize, the Root-DAO is committed to achieving a minimum of 2x consensus involvement in the CoreDAO by Q1 2024 and onboarding a non-profit by the same time. This DAO will serve as the cornerstone of our decentralized network, ensuring that the interests of our community are well represented.
B - Validation-SubDAO
The Validation-SubDAO is initially comprised of validators participating in the Main Network Genesis. These validators have pledged to keep the network secure during its initial infancy and growth by maintaining uptime reliability and adopting slashing-resistant practices.
D - Design-SubDAO
The Design-SubDAO is open to all creative direction growth leaders and serves as a platform for appointing management and funding design projects. Whether you're a seasoned designer or just starting out, this sub-DAO provides an opportunity for you to evolve the platform our DAO can become for all artists & creators.
Every time a new subdao is instantiated, it should always have a documentation link provided within the creation proposal similar to this one, communicating thoroughly on the intentions, roles & MVPS of involvement.
